Japan was eager to plunder the land of Joseon and export grains to Japan. The 18th Nagasaki Bank in Gunsan was a main instigator that lent money to the Japanese at a low interest rate for them to open usury against Joseon people. Because of this, Joseon people did not trust Japanese banks at all.
Unlike modern banks, this building—typical of those during the Japanese Colonial Era—was designed to be enclosed rather than open. Partially, the artificial stone was used for luxuriousness, and it was used as a building of a logistics company after independence; after remodeling in 2008, it was set as a Registered Cultural Property. Currently, it is used as a building of the Gunsan Modern Art Museum.
