For colonization of the Korean Peninsula during the Japanese Colonial Era, this financial facility was established as a representative building. It is designed by Nakamura Yoshihei, who designed the main office of Joseon Bank and the Central Temple of Cheondogyo and was constructed in 1923. There were no huge buildings like this in rural regions.
Joseon Bank, formerly Japan National Jeil Bank, had expanded its influence over the Korean Peninsula since 1879 to issue bank notes. In 1909, Japanese changed the title from Bank of Korea, which was established as the central bank of the Korean Peninsula, to Joseon Bank, and Japanese used it as the financial facility under direct control of the Japanese Government General of Korea.
The Gunsan branch of Joseon Bank was used as a branch of Bank of Korea and Hanil Bank after independence, and now it is used as a Museum of Modern Construction of Gunsan with history from the Japanese Colonial Era to the modern period.
