It was originally built as a private villa by a Japanese farmer in the 1920s, but after independence, as Dr. Lee, Yeong-chun, the pioneer of rural sanitation business and founder of Gaejeong Hospital, lived here, this is called “House of Lee, Yeong-chun.”
At the time of its establishment, a Japanese farmer who had land greater than 10 times the site of Yeoeuido bought an expensive chandelier and furniture from other countries to show off his wealth; he even matched a single teakwood on the kitchen floor to make the building as delicate as possible. Since very luxurious materials were used, the cost of construction was almost the same as the cost to build the official residence of the Japanese Government General of Korea. With harmony of Eastern and Western cultures, the metric system was used to construct this building for the first time in South Korea.
It has been used as studios for movies and dramas; it is now used as a Memorial Hall of Dr. Lee, Yeong-chun.
