This Tomb is a shrine to serve General Jeon Hoeng from Qi of China from the second century B.C. Jeon Hoeng from China became a subject of the folk religion of Eocheongdo Islanders because of a historical legend.
According to the legend, as Liu Bang unified China, Jeon Hoeng fled to the sea on a sailing ship with those who were loyal to him, he eventually settled at Eocheongdo Island three months later. It was Jeon Hoeng who named Eocheongo Island, which means the green Island. Later, Jeon Hoeng and 500 of his followers returned to China as the result of a trick by Liu Bang. They refused to be Liu Bang’s subjects and eventually killed themselves. People from Eocheongdo Island and other islands in the Yellow Sea serve Jeon Hoeng as a divine spirit, praying for him to offer them a bountiful catch of fish and safety. The people of the island hold a shrine service every year to honor him. Jeon Hoeng is regarded as an ancestor of Jeon Clan of Damyang, and his portrait is enshrined not only at Chidongmyo Tomb but also at Chidongwon, Gunsan.
