Meaning the shrine to serve five sea gods, "Oryongmyo Tomb (五龍廟)" is located at the Southernmost tip of Mangjubong Peak, Seonyudo Island. On the record by Seo, Geung, a Chinese ambassador in 1123, Oryongmyo Tomb was mentioned, and thus the origins of the tomb date back even earlier. While shrines near surrounding islands are thought to be places for large catch and the safety of sailors, Oryongmyo Tomb is referred to as a place to pray for successful merchant trades and safety of waterway off the shore. From Baekje, Hubaekje, to Goryeo dynasty, diplomatic corps and trade vessels from the West Coast had to pass Seonyudo Island, and in the Joseon Dynasty, it was a travel stop for cargo vessels to carry rice collected as tax to Hanyang (Seoul).
