In front of Munyeobong Peak at the main mountain of island is an islet in the shape of a Janggu (double-headed drum) and a goblet. As the shape looks like a shaman dancing, it is called Munyeodo Island (巫女島) (Shaman Island). Munyeodo Island is categorized into "Seodeui" and "Mogaemi", and the name "Seodeui" is the original name of Munyeodo Island. As found in the name "Seodeui", meaning "Work hard and quick to live", the people from Munyeodo Island were famous for their diligence. On the 530,000 m2 reclaimed land in the 1950s, much effort has been sunk into Munyeodo by the islanders. There was once a 600,000 m2 salt field on Munyeodo Island, but now salt is produced only from a small area, and the area has returned to marshland.
