During the Japanese Colonial Era, as the population increased, the Japanese in Gunsan constructed a new reservoir between Jeombangsan Mountain and Seollimsan Mountain Valley to secure the water source. This first reservoir was constructed over two and half years beginning in 1912 with annual manpower of 100,000 people.
This is composed of an embankment to store drinking water and of a water gate to measure the water height, and to protect the water quality. Seonjongam Hermitage at the southern embankment was submerged and collapsed. As the reservoir is no longer in use, this region is now called “Wolmyeong Lake” and is one of the favorite places for Gunsan citizens.
